What about Lazarus?
John 11:4 KJV
When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto
death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might
be glorified thereby.
…
14Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 15And
I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent
ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
Was it God’s will for Lazarus to be sick? No, we’ve already
established that killing, stealing and destroying are works
of the devil (John 10:10) and Jesus came to destroy those
works (1 John 3:8). Therefore Jesus did not come to destroy
God’s works or God’s will. Therefore Lazarus’ sickness was
not God’s will.
It is God’s will though, that Lazarus be healed. And when
that healing occurs God will receive glory from it. God
never receives glory from sickness, he receives glory from
healing. Lazarus’ sickness did not lead unto death (per the
faith eyes of Jesus) but it led unto his healing which
resulted in glory to God.
In
fact, the very concept of performing evil so that good may
result is condemned by Paul in the book of Romans.
Rom
3:8 NIV
8 Why not say-as we are being slanderously reported as
saying and as some claim that we say-"Let us do evil that
good may result"? Their condemnation is deserved.
So, does God allow sickness and disease to exist so that He
can be glorified through the healing? No, just like God
doesn’t allow sin just so He can be glorified when somebody
accepts the redemptive blood of Jesus and gets born again.
Sin is allowed today because the man that was originally
given authority on this earth (Adam) allowed sin. Because of
that sin Satan now roams around like a roaring lion looking
for someone to devour. He is the god of this world, the
prince of the power of the air.
If God allows or causes sickness and sin, then why did He
send Jesus to get rid of them? God created the earth perfect
with no sickness or sin. If He wanted the sickness and sin,
why didn’t He just introduce them into the earth when He
created it? God created the earth perfect. God’s will was
being performed in the earth up until Adam sinned. God’s
will is still performed in heaven, but we must now use the
promises of God to get the will of God performed on the
earth as Peter explains.
2 Peter 1:4
Through these he has given us his very great and precious
promises, so that through them you may participate in the
divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused
by evil desires.
Do you want to participate in the divine nature (the will of
God)? Then stand on the very great and precious promises of
God.
