What about Job?
Be sure to read the section:
The two contracts. We don’t
know exactly what contract (covenant) Job lived under with
God. Many people believe that Job was one of the earliest
books written in the Bible. But one thing we know for sure,
Job did not live under the New Contract that we are living
under today.
God loved His creation of man, and here was Job, a man
believed to love and serve God no matter what. God was proud
of Job and pleased with him, and he was upright in his
standing with God. But we do know that Job operated in a
very high level of fear which he confessed himself, “That
which I have feared the most has come upon me.”
Job ended up being the focal point of a showdown between God
and Satan as to whether a man would actually love and serve
God to the end. Satan asked for, and appeared to receive,
permission to afflict Job. It was a showdown in which the
man and God came out on top. Satan had to have been
humiliated because now, it had been proven, that a man will
love God so much he will stick with God no matter what!
Some people say that because Job lived in fear that his
hedge of protection was already down and Satan didn’t know
about it. Because of that hedge already being down, God
replies to Satan, “Behold, all he has is in your hands.”
Meaning, Satan didn’t have to ask permission to afflict Job
because there was an open door for attack due to the fear.
However you choose to interpret it, there is one fact that
doesn’t change; Job was not operating under the New
Contract. He didn’t have the promises or the authority that
we have today under the New Contract.
This showdown, for whatever reason it happened, did not
occur under the New Contract. You will never be the focal
point of a showdown like Job was. Why? Because the situation
of Job can never happen again. Why? Because under the New
Contract, we, mankind, now have authority over the works of
Satan. Job didn’t have authority over Satan like we have
today under the New Contract.
