Is it God's will for
me to be healed?
How
can I know beyond any shadow of a doubt that it really is
God’s will to heal me? In the era of the New Covenant that
we live in our prime example of life, love and God is none
other than Jesus Christ. We see here in Hebrews that Jesus
exactly represents God in all matters.
Heb 1:3 NLT
The Son reflects God's own glory, and everything about him
represents God exactly.
Since Jesus exactly represents God, if Jesus did it, God
agrees with it. That’s why Jesus said “I and the Father are
one.” Their intentions and actions are exactly the same.
John 10:30 NIV
I and the Father are one.
John 14:10 NIV
…The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is
the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
John 14:24 NIV
24…These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the
Father who sent me.
John 5:19 NIV
19 Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the
Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees
his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son
also does.
Jesus spoke God’s word and only did what he saw his Father
do. This means that whatever Jesus did, is what God would do
in the same situation. So if you want to know what God will
do (God’s will), just read what Jesus did.
Did you know that when people came to Jesus for healing he
never turned them down? (Except for the Syrophoenician
woman’s daughter because the gospel hadn’t been opened up
for the gentiles yet - but she got healed anyway). If Jesus
didn’t turn people down for healing 2,000 years ago, why
would he switch gears and turn you or anybody else down
today?
If Jesus was standing here right now, would you come up to
him for healing? And what do you think his answer would be?
In all of Jesus’ healing accounts he never said something
like, the Father and I have decided it’s just not our will
to heal you.
If Jesus was standing right here, right now, and you weren’t
sure if it was his will to heal you or not, and you walked
up to him and asked, “Jesus is it your will to heal me?”
What would his answer be? That same incident happened in the
Bible. A man came to Jesus who wasn’t sure if it was Jesus’
will to heal him. He knew Jesus could do it, but he wasn’t
sure if Jesus would do it – he wasn’t sure if it was Jesus’
will to heal him.
Mark 1:40-41 NIV
40 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his
knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean."
41 Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and
touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!"
Consider this analogy. Let’s say you were walking down a
concourse at an airport carrying a suitcase in one arm and a
bag in the other. I then come up to you and say let me take
that suitcase and carry that bag for you. I then proceed to
take them out of your arms and walk along side you, carrying
your baggage.
From this story you can definitely conclude one thing: I
don’t want you to carry the suitcase or the bag. I took them
from you. It is not my will for you to carry the suitcase or
the bag through the airport.
Matt 8:17 NIV
…"He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases."
The Bible says that Jesus took our infirmities (sickness)
and carried our disease. Now back to the analogy, let’s
replace the suitcase with sickness and the bag with disease.
You’re now walking along in life and Jesus comes up and says
let me take that sickness and carry that disease for you.
Jesus then proceeds to take them out of your hands and walk
along side you, carrying your sickness and disease.
From this story you can definitely conclude one thing: Jesus
doesn’t want you to carry the sickness or the disease. He
took them from you. It is not Jesus’ will for you to carry
the sickness or the disease through life. This is great
news!
So how does Jesus take the sickness and disease from you? By
healing you! We see that it is Jesus’ will to heal you
because he doesn’t want you to carry the sickness or the
disease. And we know that Jesus only does what he sees his
Father doing, so we know that it is God’s will to heal you.
But if the Bible says that Jesus took my sickness and
disease (along with many other promises of healing), why am
I still sick? To answer this question we must first
understand two Biblical principles.
1 –
God’s will does not always happen.
2 –
A promise from God is only as good as
your faith in it.
